15 Years Ago

1996 – A little more than 200 people took advantage of a hazardous home waste collection program offered at South Central FS in Vandalia.
Clint Benhoff and Tim Worker of Ramsey were on the baseball squad at Lake Land College.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Nattier of Patoka were making plans to celebrate their 60th anniversary.

Many years ago, I was fortunate enough to obtain copies of several early photos of the village of Fillmore, just over the line in Montgomery County.  
Recently, while showing these photographs to a friend, I stopped at the one of Dr. H.S. Short. Whoever took the pictures was kind enough to identify them as well.  Written on the reverse of Dr. Short’s photo is the phrase, "H.S. Short, 45 years in practice."

1996 – Bob Bowen, chief deputy of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office since 1991, submitted his resignation. He had taken a job with Bowen Cabinet & Appliances.
The Greater Brownstown Park District and Brownstown Village Board began pursuing the idea of building a nine-hole, par-3 golf course in the community.
Arthur and Irene Dial were making plans to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Also planning to celebrate a golden anniversary were the Rev. Dale and Valeria Diveley.

Nearly 20 years ago, I was in one of the local antique shops on Gallatin Street when two large portraits caught my eye. The portraits, created in charcoal and pencil, obviously by the same hand, were framed and in very good condition.
