This week's photo: The young man in this photo was born in Effingham on April 13, 1935, but grew up in Vandalia. His grandparents owned a hotel in Vandalia. He has lived in Wisconsin for the past 55 years.

1997 – Kelly McGinnis of Greenville was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the August 1996 murder of Greenville Attorney Tom Meyer.
In a 4-3 vote, the Vandalia Board of Education rescinded penalties handed down to two students through enforcement of the district’s athletic policy.
Nathan Graumenz of Vandalia won the state championship in the 135-pound weight class at the state wrestling finals in Champaign. Michael Mabry of VCHS placed fourth in the 125-pound class.
