    Ivalee “Ivy” Stine Herrin and Snyder E. Herrin II of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ft. Worth, Texas, recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
    Ivalee is the eldest daughter of the late Wayne R. “Sturdy” and Mabel E. (Justi) Stine. Snyder is the son of the late attorney Snyder E. and Norma Dot (Keen) Herrin of Herrin.

    Indoor yard sale to benefit shoebox effort

     

    An indoor yard sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.

    Among the items available will be books, clothing, small appliances, household items and outdoor furniture.

  • Giving grace to those around us is God's mandate

    One day, a 2-year-old boy was just hanging out and having fun at home. Mom and Dad were busy in other places in the house.
    Two-year-old Eli found his favorite crayons and got busy on his latest masterpiece. He colored and drew, and then  stepped back and looked. I can visualize his satisfaction as he   admired his picture – drawn on the wall, neatly arranged and boldly displayed.
    Admiration turned to distress in a heartbeat as Dad entered the room. Eli’s picture was noted, and punishment was delivered.

    Connor Smith (left), a 2010 graduate of Brownstown High School, was this year's recipient of a $500 Illinois Sheriffs' Association scholarship awarded through the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. Fayette County Sheriff Aaron Lay presents Smith with the scholarship.

  • Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus

    Intro to Internet & e-mail
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Community Education will offer an introduction to the Internet and e-mail class at the Vandalia Campus.
    This class will be held Saturdays, Sept. 18 and 25, and Oct. 2, from 9-11:30 a.m.
    The registration number is LLI 7025 VA01D. 
     This basic class is designed to familiarize students with how to use e-mail, learn about establishing free e-mail accounts and how to use the Internet for learning, shopping and business.
