    Christmas Gathering
    The family of the late Walter and Agnes Lotz celebrated Christmas on Dec. 19 at the home of Ed and Doris Young. Present were: Ed and June Opfer, David and Connie Feather, Jonathan Feather and friend Ami, Craig and Amy Opfer, Jason Opfer, Larry and Bev Lotz, Jason, Kellly, Lauren and Logan Lotz, Jamie, Emily, Andrew and Evan Lotz,  Jeff, Jeana and Krista Lotz, and John and Carissa Lotz. Unable to attend were Cindi Lotz, Tyson Lotz, Tessa Opfer, and Nicole Opfer and fiancé Blake Doehring.

    When Bill’s sister, Ava Taylor, called with an invitatiton to eat with her at Los Amigos, her treat, Bill got a reprieve from his household chores since the “broken ankle-can’t stand on it long without crutches-so-can’t stand-over-hot-stove-and-cook-or-wash-dishes” incident.

    Wild game meal at Brownstown church

    Brownstown First Christian Church will host its fourth annual wild game supper on Sunday, Jan. 16, at 5:30 p.m. All participants are encouraged to bring a wild game dish and other food.

  • View life's ups and downs with a cheerful heart

    I ran an errand early on the Sunday morning before Christmas. The light snow falling created a picturesque scene. I stepped on the sidewalk in front of a home and took one step. The next thing was a blur of coat and me hitting the sidewalk. I think the older I get, the harder I fall. I laid there for a minute, and then began to smile. I hope someone, anyone who saw this got a good laugh. My pride was hurt the worst, and then, a few hours later, other aches and pains began to settle in.

  • USDA reports more diversification in the nation's horticulture operations

    The sales of food crops grown under protection in the United States more than doubled in the last decade as U.S. horticultural operations are becoming more diverse and taking advantage of newly emerging agricultural trends, according to results of the 2009 Census of Horticultural Specialties released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
