    Genealogy group plans annual meeting

    The Fayette County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. next Tuesday at Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to take family stories for show and tell.
    The group's annual meeting will be held on Nov. 2 at Good Old Days Banquet Hall in Brownstown. The cost is $15, and reservations are due by Oct. 15.

  • 12U AAU tryout coming to Vandalia, Ramsey

    A tryout for the 2011 12U Liberty AAU League will be held at the Vandalia High School JV field from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday.

    A second tryout will be held at Ramsey High School at 2 p.m. on Oct. 24.

    Players should bring their own equipment to ensure they have the proper size, and tennis shoes in case the tryout is moved indoors.

  • Patoka state qualifiers honored

    Signs were put up by IDOT along U.S. Route 51 in Patoka to recognize Brandi and Taylor Isaak, who both placed at the 2010 SIJHSA state meet. Brandi (left) placed second in the state in the 100-meter hurdles, and Taylor placed second in the 100-meter dash.

  • Buddy Bass Tournament (Sept. 11)

    The Vandalia Sport Fishing and Conservation Club held a Buddy Bass Tournament on Vandalia Lake on Saturday, Sept. 11. The winners are pictured; from left to right: Scott Wisnasky and Tom Lindley, first place with 9.77 pounds; Travis Gould, second place with 7.61 pounds; and Mike Lindley and Steve Booth, third place with 3.81 pounds. The big bass winner was Gould with a 4.81-pound catch.

  • YMCA hosting charity Free-Throw-Athon

    The YMCA is hosting its first annual Free-Throw-Athon from 9 p.m. on Oct. 15 to 5 a.m. on Oct. 17.

    During each hour of the event, teams of 10 people representing organizations will shoot 100 free throws each to earn money for both the YMCA and their organization (the money will split 50/50).

    Individual organizations must solicit pledges before the event. After the event, the YMCA will contact those who pledged money, and participating organizations will receive their check soon after.
