  • Ramsey Junior High boys advance to state tournament

    ST. ELMO -- Under the direction of first-year coach Matt Belusko, the Ramsey Junior High eighth-grade boys basketball team advanced to the Class 2A State Tournament by defeating Okaw Valley, 39-35, in overtime Thursday night.

    The Rams (15-7) will meet Normal Metcalf Junior High (17-8) on Saturday at Mt. Pulaski Grade School (see map below) at 1 p.m. The state championship game is next Thursday.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on Jan. 27 at noon for their meeting and luncheon at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
    There were two guests and 20 members present for the meeting. Guests present were Jane Hammond and Sandy Dawes. The pledge to the flag was given,  followed by the meal prayer by Vera Miller.
    After the meal, the meeting was opened with a welcome. The secretary/treasurer reports for November were read and approved. Birthdays and anniversaries for December and January were read.

    Wednesday, Feb. 16 – Creamy baked chicken, parsley potatoes, mixed vegetables, fruit for salad, biscuit, birthday cake.
    Thursday, Feb. 17 – White bean chili, tuna salad sandwich, fresh tomatoes, peach crisp, crackers.

  • Birthday Open House

    Betty Rubin
    Betty Rubin of St. Peter will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house hosted by her children from 1:30-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, at the American Legion Home in St. Peter.
    All friends and family are invited to attend. She requests no gifts.

    Jasper Alexander Perry
    Ally Perry of Vandalia is the parent of a boy born at 10:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. He was named Jasper Alexander.
    Grandparents are Jay and Sayona Perry of Vandalia.
    Great-grandparents are Jane Hall and Betty and Art Perry, all of Vandalia.

  • Austin – 50 Years

    Steve and Gloria Austin of St. Elmo will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the St. Elmo Christian Church.

  • Crawford – 40 Years

    Steve and Donna Crawford of South Carolina, and formerly of Vandalia, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30.
    Steve and the former Donna Smith were married on Jan. 30, 1971, at the former Second Baptist Church in Vandalia.
    They lived in Vandalia for 17 years,  moved to Florida and then on to South Carolina in 1991.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Stacey and her husband Brian Hoff, and Kristin and her husband Todd Karraker.
    They have six grandchildren: Shayla, Joshua, Alex, Austin, Seth and Alexis.
