  • Main Street plans restructuring

    In the face of funding cuts from the city of Vandalia and difficult economic conditions, the board of directors of Vandalia Main Street this week issued a press release affirming its intention to continue the organization – albeit in a scaled-down version.
    As a result, the organization will be “restructuring its dues, membership structure and administrative operations to better meet the needs of donors and offer better value for their investment,” according to a press release issued by Josh Henry, Vandalia Main Street board president.

  • City looking into enhanced police patrols at lake

    Everyone attending a meeting on Monday evening agreed that more of a police presence is needed at Vandalia Lake.
    How that can be accomplished has yet to be determined.
    But there was considerable discussion on that issue during a meeting called by the Vandalia Lake Committee.
    In addition to committee members, those in attendance included Mayor Rick Gottman, Vandalia Police Chief Larry Eason, Fayette County Sheriff Aaron Lay and several city aldermen.

  • Freeland — Filer

    Katherine Freeland and Lucas Filer, both of Vandalia, were united in marriage on Saturday, June 12, 2010.
    The bride is the daughter of Kent and Mary Anna Freeland of Vandalia.
    The groom is the son of Lynn and Dee Filer of Vandalia.
    The bride chose Allison Gallagher as her matron of honor and Tana Robinson as her bridesmaid.
    The groom chose Seth Womack as his best man and Josh Jackson as the groomsman.
    Gwen Robinson and Anna Osborne were the flower girls. Donny Stroud and Caden Osborne were the ring-bearers.

  • Teen arrested for double murder in Loogootee

    A male teen was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, several hours after two individuals were found dead at a Loogootee residence.
    Fayette County Stephen Friedel said in a press release issued shortly before noon on Wednesday that the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday to investigate a reported break-in at a Loogootee residence.
    A sheriff’s deputy then responded to a second Loogootee residence “and identified an apparent crime scene."

  • Hoffman — Thomason

    Erin Hoffman and Tim Thomason were united in marriage on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the home of the bride's parents in Vandalia in a double-ring ceremony, with Tim Logue officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of Randy and Patti Hoffman of Vandalia. She is 2005 graduate of Vandalia Community High School and a 2007 graduate of Kaskaskia College.
    The groom is the son of Tony and Shelly Thomason of Brownstown. He is a 2007 graduate of Brownstown High School and is currently attending Kaskaskia College.

  • Dunaway — Kruenegel

    Karlee Elizabeth Dunaway and Tyler David Kruenegel were united in marriage on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Augsburg in a double-ring ceremony, with Pastor Bruce Milash officiating.

  • DeClerck — Keppler

    Molly DeClerck and Kyle Keppler, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Steve and LeeAnn DeClerck and Becky DeClerck, all of Vandalia. She is a 2006 graduate of Vandalia Community High School and is currently attending Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. She is in her last year of elementary education instruction and will be student teaching in Fairview Heights, Ill. She is currently employed at Ponderosa in Vandalia.

  • Blunt — Moy

    Miranda Autumn Blunt and Richard TaiSun Moy, both of Uptown Neighborhood, Chicago have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Dennis and Janice Blunt of Greenville. She has a bachelor degree, broadcast journalism from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, and a master's degree in public relations and advertising from DePaul University, Chicago. She is currently employed as a copywriter for W.W. Grainger in Lake Forest.

    Samantha Belcher of Mulberry Grove and Kyle Aukamp of Vandalia have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Gary and Karan Belcher of Mulberry Grove. She is a 2006 graduate of Mulberry Grove High School and is currently employed at United Stationers in Greenville.
    The future groom is the son of Kevin and Crystal Aukamp of Vandalia. He is a 2005 graduate of Vandalia Community High School and is currently employed at Culligan Water Conditioning. He will be leaving for the Army in September.
