  • Hayes — 50 years

    Jerry and Cathy Hayes of Kimberling City, Mo., and formerly of Brownstown, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Thursday, Aug. 5.
    Jerry and the former Cathy Bayles were married on Aug. 5, 1960, at the Brownstown Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Brown officiating.
    Jerry is a 1992 retired field superintendent from Exxon Co. USA. Cathy retired in 1992 from First Nation Bank in Brownstown.

  • Frailey — 50 years

    Charles and Connie Frailey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 1, 2010.
    The couple were married on July 1, 1960, in Bartonville. They are both retired. 
    They have four children: Kimberly Gayle Frailey of Centralia, Wanda Denise Jansen of Evans, Ga., Galen Wade Frailey of Shobonier and Charles Robert Frailey, deceased.
    They have 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

  • Carson — 50 years

    Virgil and Catherine Carson of Brownstown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Liberty Christian Church, hosted by their children.
    Virgil Junior and the former Catherine Friese were married on Aug. 5, 1960, in Effingham. Their attendants were Everett and Ruby Schaub.
    Virgil is the son of the late Virgil and Ethel Carson. Catherine is the daughter of the late Mike and Thelma Friese.
    He is a self-employed farmer and she is a homemaker.

  • Devore — 70 years

    The Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Gehl and Doris Devore will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary from 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22, at First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan.
    The couple was married on Aug. 22, 1940, by Mrs. Devore’s father, the Rev. Fred C. Mery, in their hometown of Altamont. Dr. and Mrs. Devore served at First United Methodist from 1963-1979, and Dr. Devore is currently pastor emeritus at the church.

  • Two found dead in Loogootee home

    Two individuals who sustained gunshot wounds were found dead in a Loogootee home early Wednesday, and a male teen is in custody.

    Fayette County State's Attorney Stephen Friedel said in a statement released just before noon on Wednesday that the bodies of two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds were discovered as the Fayette County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a break-in.

    State and county law enforcement officials are reportedly investigating the death of two individuals at their Loogootee home.

    County officials were still unable to release any more information by mid-morning on Wednesday. The release of information was scheduled for noon on Wednesday.
