  • Abe visits Brownstown Elementary

    In honor of Lincoln's Birthday, Brownstown sixth-grader Jeffrey Kelly portrayed the 16th President and visited each classroom. He visited with the students and told them a little about his life, and then gave every student a birthday treat. Kelly is shown with BES Principal Angela Reeter.

    Lucas and Jessica Levanti of West Frankfort are the parents of a girl born at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

    George and Beverly Hipsher of Vandalia will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children and family from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church rural Vandalia.

  • Courson – 50 Years

    Richard and Doris Courson of St. Peter will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the St. Peter American Legion Home, hosted by their children.
    Richard and the former Doris Rothe were married on Feb.  26, 1961, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Martin L. Travis. Their attendants were Mary Lillian Virden and the late Dean Virden.

    David and Debra Cearlock celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011.
    David and the former Debra Goodin were married on Feb. 14, 1976, at First Baptist Church in Mulberry Grove.
    He is the son of the late Dewayne and Norma Cearlock of Vandalia. She is the daughter of Howard and Nelda Goodin of Mulberry Grove.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Angela and her husband Christopher Smith of Vandalia, and Staci and her husband Curtis Hampton of Greenville.

  • NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace to be advocate for farmers, renewable fuels

    A multi-state coalition of farmers and agribusinesses announced this week their promotional partnership with NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Kenny Wallace, who will serve as a spokesman for family farmers and renewable fuels for the entire 2011 racing season.
    The agreement also makes family farmers the primary sponsor of RAB Racing’s No. 09 Toyota Camry, driven by Wallace, at five races this season, with the first at Phoenix International Raceway on Feb. 26.
