    ST. ELMO – It was a game 70 hours in the making – and even that wasn’t long enough.

    Brownstown senior Zach Rigdon shot a 3-pointer with approximately two-tenths of a second left in regulation to tie the game at 37, but South Central won 56-51 in triple overtime, finishing off a game that had three times been postponed.

  • Altamont wins St. Elmo Tourney

    ST. ELMO -- The Altamont High School boys basketball team defeated St. Elmo, 59-54, in the championship game of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament Saturday night.

    Ryan Heiden, an Indians senior, was named tournament MVP.

    Beecher City defeated South Central in the third-place game, Cowden-Herrick defeated Brownstown for the consolation championship and Mulberry Grove beat Ramsey in the seventh-place game.

  • Friday Sports Cancellations

    The Vandalia High School boys and girls teams will not play tonight, and Saturday's girls game has been moved to 1 p.m.

    The boys were scheduled to play at Litchfield Friday night. That game will now be at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Litchfield.

    The girls were scheduled to face Pana tonight at 5 p.m. as a makeup for Thursday's game. That game has been canceled and a makeup date is to be announced. Saturday's home game against Altamont has been moved from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Thursday sports cancellations

    The Vandalia High School girls basketball team and the Vandalia Junior High boys basketball teams will not play tonight. In addition, icy road conditions have given the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament another setback.

    The girls game has been rescheduled for Friday night, with the JV game beginning at 5 p.m. in Pana. The Lady Vandals will host Altamont at 11 a.m. on Saturday as scheduled.

    The junior high boys' games, also against Pana, have yet to be rescheduled.

    Kaden Lane Schaefer
    Ryan and Jeanifer Schaefer of Beecher City are the parents of a boy born at 6:44 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
    He weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20 inches long. He was named Kaden Lane.
    Grandparents are Kenny and Kathy Bogart of Brownstown, and Evan Schaefer, and Matt and Amy Jones, all of Beecher City.
