1996 – The Vandalia Municipal Swimming Pool was ready to open after extensive rehabilitation work was completed.
Reservations were being taken for the second annual Vandalia Community High School alumni banquet.
A Centralia judge, Harold Pennock III, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol following an auto accident in Centralia. The accident occurred a little more than an hour after Pennock completed his daily duties on the bench in Fayette County.
As the fair winds down, another special event is gearing up – this one at Vandalia Lake.
The event is the inaugural Midwest All-Ford Nationals Car Show & Swap Meet. It runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It has the potential to attract hundreds of vintage Ford cars and trucks, as Ford enthusiasts bring their vehicles to the event to be judged and appreciated.
Though the Fayette County Fair has been going on since last Saturday, there's still plenty of action to come before it completes its run this Saturday.
One of the early activities this week was the crowning of the fair royalty. Reigning over the fair are Marisa Thomason (Miss Fayette County Fair), Brooke Mayfield (Junior Miss Fayette County Fair) and Emma Grace Smith (Little Miss Fayette County Fair). Congratulations to those young women. They will continue to represent Fayette County at events throughout the next year.
