    Eastern Illinois University
    Nicholas Schulze of Vandalia was among the fall 2010 semester graduates at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.


    Schulze, the son of Gary and Peggy Schulze, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in music.

     

  • Dean's List

    Maryville University
    Ashley Durbin of Vandalia was among the students named to the dean's list for the fall semeser at Maryville University in St. Louis.
    Durbin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Durbin, is a student in the school of health professions.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Financial aid workshop
    Kaskaskia College Financial Aid will be hosting half-day sessions for professional development opportunities designed to help high school counselors, community organization members, financial aid administrators and other professionals involved in assisting Illinois students and their families along the path to college.
    The workshop is designed to help build an understanding of financial aid concepts, whether the student is new to financial aid or a seasoned professional seeking a refresher.

    Tanya DeSherlia and Mark Taylor, both of Vandalia, have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.


    The future bride is the daughter of Robert and Joan Langley of Vandalia. She is currently employed as an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital in the ER.
    The future groom is the son of Ed and Donna Taylor of Vandalia. He is currently employed as the director of operations at Octochem.
    The couple are planning a June 19, 2011, wedding.

  • Jones – 60 Years

    The Rev. Casey and Flora Jones Sr. of Westmont, and formerly of Vandalia, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house hosted by their children on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Westmont Centre.

  • Smith-Kinney

    Adrienne Smith of Brownstown and Walter Kinney of Vandalia were united in marriage on Nov. 20, 2010, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia with the Revs. Roger Grimmett of Vandalia and John Robinson of Brownstown officiating the double-ring ceremony.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-March 3, 2011

    • Shawn D. Loy, 35, Effingham, was arrested on March 1 on an alleged violation order of protection. No bond amount was listed.
    • Charles M. Durbin, 39, 1501 N. Seventh St., Vandalia, was arrested on March 1 on an alleged violation of an order of protection. He was released on an order from the state’s attorney’s office.
    • Kyle W. Starnes, 23, RR 1, St. Peter, was arrested on Feb. 28 on a charge of disorderly conduct. Bond was $1,000.

    ✔ The United Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia will hold their annual pancake and sausage supper from 4-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at the church, located at 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Donations will be accepted. The proceeds will help fund United Methodist Men projects.
