  • Retired teachers meet

    The Fayette County Retired Teachers held their meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at Ponderosa.
    The meeting was opened by President Billyanna Dugan, and prayer was given by Jimmie Page.
    After the pledge, the secretary/treasurer reports were given and accepted as read.
    Richard Lowe read an article about insurance for teachers.
    Dugan asked that the group posthumously honor a past member, Jim Smith, for services to the retired teachers. Beulah Brown made a motion, and it was seconded by Jim Page, with voting in favor.

  • Shannon White promoted to major

    Ramsey native Shannon “Dewayne” White was promoted to major in the Army on Jan. 28
    The ceremony took place at West Point, N.Y., where White has served for the past three years as an assistant professor of Russian.

  • Dating violence workshops set

    According to the 2007 National Crime Victimization Survey of the United States, approximately 248,300 rape/sexual assault victimizations occurred in 2007.
    A study released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that about 10 percent of students reported being physically hurt by a boyfriend or girlfriend in the last 12 months.
    Lastly, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics Supplemental Victimization Survey on Stalking, an estimated 3.4 million persons age 18 or older were victims of stalking during a 12-month period.
