    Colin Jeffrey Choisser
    Jeff and Amber Choisser of Valmeyer are the parents of a boy born at 1:38 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at St. John’s Mercy, St. Louis, Mo.
    He weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 18 inches long. He was named Colin Jeffrey.
    Grandparents are Carl and Shelia Connell of Flora, Gary and Beth Emerick of Vandalia, and Dale and Vickie Choisser of Tennessee.
    Great-grandparents are Betty Barnett of Eldorado, Ann Emerick of Vandalia, and Elsie Hinkle, and Hunter and Rajean Connell, all of Flora.

    Dale Harbison of rural Vandalia and his granddaughter, Haley Smith, display three large turnips they grew this year.

  • Keppler – DeClerck

    Molly DeClerck and Kyle Keppler were united in marriage on Sept. 10, 2010, at the Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in Vandalia.
    The bride is the daughter of Becky DeClerck of Vandalia and Steve DeClerck of Pana.
    The groom is the son of Kevin and Shelly Keppler of Vandalia.
    The bride chose Abby Bayles, sister of the bride, as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Morgan Cripe, niece; Lindsay Lash, sister of the groom; and Katie Stanley, friend of the bride.

  • Cearlock – 35 Years

    Geno and Karen Cearlock of Vandalia celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday, Nov. 8.
    Geno and the former Karen Graumenz were married on Nov. 8, 1975, in Vandalia.
    Their attendants were John Cearlock and Judy Hoffek.
    Geno is the son of Bea and the late Gene Cearlock of Vandalia. He is retired from the Vandalia City Police Department.
    Karen is the daughter of Alvin and the late Edna Graumenz of Vandalia. She is employed at the Vandalia Wal-Mart.

  • Pruitt-Patterson

    Kerri Pruitt and Joseph Patterson have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Dan and Nori Pruitt of Vandalia. She is a 2007 graduate of Vandalia Community High School. She is currently employed at Greenville Regional Hospital as a certified nurse's assistant and as a receptionist at Maranatha’s in Vandalia.
    The future groom is the son of Cyndi Bolt and the late Bob Patterson of Brownstown.

  • Church Briefs

    Brownstown Thanksgiving service Sunday

    The Brownstown area churches and ministerial alliance will host a community Thanksgiving service this Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Brownstown United Methodist Church, which is located at the corner of First and Maple streets in Brownstown.

    The host church will lead the worship time, with several other churches providing special music. The Rev. Olen Evans, pastor of Brownstown First Baptist Church, will preach. The public is invited. 

  • 'Everything Apple'

    The women of St. James Lutheran Church will hold an "everything apple" bake sale this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church gymnasium. Included in the items for sale will be apple sauce, apple pies, apple crisp, apple cake and apple muffins.     The air was crisp, but the sun was shining when we arrived at Wesley Hall on Monday for Evergreen Outreach.
    We have been blessed with some lovely days lately, which enabled me to clean up my garden and tuck everything away for the winter.
    Our friend Russ Osborn was driving the bus on Monday, which brought our guests from Long Term Care, Vandalia Rehab, FAYCO and Sweetbriar.

  • Friends and Families of FCH holding raffle

    Friends & Families of Fayette County Hospital has begun selling tickets for its annual meat raffle.
    The grand prize of the raffle is a $500 bundle of meat from Givens Meat Shop. Two other prizes of $250 worth of meat also will be awarded at a drawing that will be held on Dec. 14.
