  • Sweet Peas – New consignment shop focuses on kids

    Robbi Meade’s pet name for her children is “Sweet Peas.” So when she decided to launch a consignment store for children, the term of endearment seemed to be a natural choice for the name.
    Thus, she recently opened the business under the name of Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique.

  • Vandal seventh-graders fall short in regional title game

    The Vandalia Junior High seventh-grade girls basketball team lost to Central A&M in the regional championship game on Tuesday, 37-19.

    Central A&M is now 23-0 on the season, while Vandalia finished with an impressive 18-4 record.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on Nov. 18 at noon for their luncheon and meeting at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia, with two guests and 21 members in attendance.
    Pledge to the flag was given, followed by the meal prayer by Brock Fisher.
    After the meal, President Dean Black called the meeting to order. Secretary/treasurer reports were given and approved.
    Birthdays and anniversaries for November were read. Reports of several members with health issues were given.
    Dues for the year 2011 were paid by several members.

  • Shelton – 50 Years

    Lynn and Lou Shelton of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Saturday.
    They are the parents of four children: Lavena Carrol of Lutz, Fla., Lavail Shelton of Tampa, Fla., Lavon Shelton of Brownstown and Lavern Shelton of Vandalia.
    They have 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    The couple only knew each other for 27 days before they got married.

    FUMC youth to hold chili supper Dec. 5

    The youth group of First United Methodist Church of Vandalia will be holding a chili supper on Sunday, Dec. 5, to help fund its mission trip next summer to Barnesville, Minn.

    The meal will be served following church and Sunday school in Wesley Hall, on the lower level of the church. The menu includes chili, peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drink.
