  • FAYCO fighting state cuts

    As Illinois municipalities fight to retain state income tax, a local entity is also battling proposed cuts by the state government.
    Officials at FAYCO Enterprises, which has as its mission “to integrate people with disabilities and other life issues into the community and enrich their quality of life with choice and independence,” are lobbying against about $115 million in proposed cuts to community services in the state.

  • County makes another fund transfer for payroll

    With barely enough members on hand for a quorum, the Fayette County Board approved on Tuesday another fund transfer to ensure that the county could meet payroll.
    Eight of the board’s 13 current members were present for the meeting, which included a transfer of $250,000 from the county’s capital improvement fund to the general fund.
    “We don’t actually need it right now, but we’re close,” board Chairman Steve Knebel told board members.

  • Band Parents' ice cream social is Thursday

    The Vandalia Junior High School spring band concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the VJHS gym.

    After the concert, the Vandalia Band Parents will hold its inaugural ice cream social in the VJHS cafeteria.

    The cost for a half pint of ice cream is $3, with chocolate, vanilla, strawberry cheesecake, cookies and cream, cookie dough and s'mores.

  • Building Trades house on display next week

    The class built by this year's building trades class at the Okaw Area Vocational Center will be on display for the public next week.

    The house, located at 1 Mark Drive, off of Jefferson Street in Vandalia, will be open to the public at the following times:

    • May 9-13  9:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:15 p.m.

    • May 13  4-8 p.m.

     KC receives financial reporting award
    Kaskaskia College announced this week that for the third straight year, the college has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
