    The Vandalia Sport Fishing and Conservation Club held its season-opening bass tournament on Vandalia Lake on Saturday, April 14.

  • Vandalia softball game canceled

    The makeup softball game between Vandalia and East Alton-Wood River for Tuesday has been postponed. A make-up is to be announced for the game that was originally scheduled for April 13.

  • Mayor receives word that Graham plant is closing

    10 a.m. Tuesday: Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman told The Leader-Union this morning that he has received word that Graham Packaging plans to close its Vandalia plant this summer.

    Gottman said he has seen a copy of a letter given to employees that explain the plans to close the plant, and that he has been working through the morning to set up a meeting with Graham officials.

    Gottman plans to make an announcement on those plans early this afternoon.

  • South Central baseball, softball games canceled

    South Central has canceled home baseball and softball games for Tuesday afternoon.

  • St. Elmo baseball game canceled

    The baseball game scheduled for Tuesday between St. Elmo and St. Anthony has been canceled.

  • Teen murderer to stay in juvenile system for now

    A judge has ruled that a Loogootee teen convicted last year of murdering a neighbor couple will stay in the state's juvenile corrections system for now.

    In a written order filed on Monday, Judge Michael McHaney ruled, over the objection of Fayette County's state's attorney, that Clifford Baker is to "remain under the auspices of the Department of Juvenile Justice."

  • Vandalia baseball and softball games canceled

    The Vandalia baseball game at Greenville, and the Vandalia softball game against Greenville scheduled for today have both been canceled.

    The baseball game will be played in Greenville on Tuesday, weather-permitting, and the softball game will be made up on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Vandalia.

    The softball team plays at East Alton-Wood River on Tuesday in a makeup game from earlier in the season.

  • NHS at BHS aids with cemetery cleanup; plans dodgeball tourney

    The Brownstown High School National Honor Society held a cleanup day at Griffith Cemetary in rural Brownstown on Saturday.

  • Golden Years Receives Flag

    An American flag was presented to the Griffith Cemetery in Brownstown by the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society Program during a recent Golden Years Club meeting.

    Kindergarten registration is May 1

    Kindergarten pre-registration will be held from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday at Jefferson Primary School, 1500 W. Jefferson St., Vandalia. The pre-registration is for children who will be age 5 before Sept. 1, 2012.
