  • Prep roundup (April 5)

    South Central notched its first win of the season last Thursday after scoring 13 times in the second inning of a 14-0 win against Sandoval.

    The Lady Cougars (1-7) got three hits from senior Celeste Fox and a gem of a game from senior ace Alexis Phillips, who pitched five innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit.

    Mia Campbell and Sierra Gunnels each had multi-hit games for South Central, and Fox, Phillips and junior Lexi Schafer each had two RBI.

  • Lake Land cheerleaders place first

    The Lake Land College cheerleaders recently placed first in their division at the Windy City Classic.

  • South Central softball game canceled

    The softball game scheduled for Monday between South Central and Webber has been canceled because Webber does not have enough players.

  • St. Elmo baseball game canceled

    The baseball game scheduled between St. Elmo and Odin for Monday has been canceled because Odin does not enough players. The contest has been rescheduled for April 18 in St. Elmo.

    Bankester Family to play at Liberty  

    The Bankester Family will perform at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown on April 15 at the 10 a.m. worship service and at a 6 p.m. concert.
    The group plays bluegrass-style  music, performed with instruments such as the banjo, fiddle, violin and mandolin.

    What a gorgeous day! Seems it would be a day to plant flowers, but I’m told one must wait until Mother’s Day. Surely, we will not have frost or snow after such a beautiful March. The dandelions don’t wait!
    David and Patricia Pence welcomed us with music. David said that since Palm Sunday will be this coming Sunday, and Easter will be the following Sunday, that their music would be related to the Easter season.

    A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to a dentist. “I want a tooth pulled, and I don’t want novocaine because I’m in a big hurry,” the woman said.

  • Modern Woodmen donate to food pantry

    The Vandalia Modern Woodmen of American chapter recently donated $250 worth of canned food to the Fayette County Food Pantry as part of the organization’s Care and Share Program.
    Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to connect through social activities and volunteer projects.
    Care and Share is a nationwide program that offers Modern Woodmen chapters an opportunity to provide up to $250 of basic life necessities to individuals and families in need in their communities.
