    Floyd and Donna Oertwig of St. Peter will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the American Legion Home in St. Peter.


    Floyd and the former Donna Storck were married on May 27, 1961, at St. Peter Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Martin Travis.
    They are the parents of two daughters: Cindy and her husband Greg Witto, and Debra and her husband Duane Fuller, both of Charleston.
    They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

  • Regina's Antique Treasures Ribbon Cutting

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held recently at Regina's Antique Treasures, a new antique and collectables store located at 2525 Veterans Ave., Suite B, in Vandalia. Owned by Regina Brown, the store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and is closed on Monday. The telephone number is 283-9116.

  • Vandalia Rehab provides 'comfort bears'

    First Photo - Residents and staff at Vandalia Rehabilitation Center hold some of the stuffed bears that they helped to make. Those "Comfort Bears" will be donated to the Fayette County Health Department, which will give them to young patients undergoing treatment there.   • Schaal and Associates' Johnson wins sales award

    Donna Johnson of Schaal & Associates Real Estate was awarded the bronze award at the recent annual banquet held by the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors in Collinsville. The bronze award is based on sales of $1 million of transactions closed.

    After being quietly open since late March, the Verizon Wireless store in Vandalia officially opened its doors on May 12 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-May 26, 2011

    • Michael E. Tessman, 54, 2207 Angie Drive, Vandalia, was arrested on May 24 on a charge of driving under the influence, and on an Effingham County small claims warrant. Bond was $3,100.
    • Kayla M. Hovis, 20, 318 N. Fifth St., Vandalia, was arrested on May 23 on a charge of driving without a valid license. She was given a notice to appear in court, and was held for federal authorities on a charge of methamphetamine manufacture.
    • William E. Jackson, 25, RR 1, Vandalia, was arrested on May 23 on a charge of battery. No bond amount was listed.
