  • Rams beat MG in OT for seventh

    ST. ELMO – Ramsey junior Tylor Knisley did not want to finish last in this season’s St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

    Scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds in the fourth period and overtime, Knisley led the Rams to a 42-36 win against Mulberry Grove in Saturday’s seventh-place game.

    He finished the contest with game-highs for points (15) and rebounds (11), while adding a steal and two blocked shots. Ramsey senior Colton Hunt tied his season-high with 11 points.

  • Vandal wrestlers fall by a point to Civic Memorial

    The Vandalia wrestling team came up just short against Civic Memorial last Wednesday in the final tuneup before the St. Thomas More New Year’s Challenge.

    Vandalia recorded two pins and had four forfeit victories, but Civic Memorial took all of the remaining matches to win, 37-36.

    Senior Zach Jackson pinned his opponent in 1:51 at 160 pounds, and sophomore Jake Stewart picked up his team-leading eighth win by pinning his opponent in 3:50 at 170 pounds.

    Jackson is tied with sophomore Dalton Blankenship for the team lead with five pins.

    Vandalia's Jr. wrestlers found plenty of success at Sunday's Vandalia Christmas Showdown tournament.

  • Eagles use defense to make title game

    ST. ELMO – A strong second half propelled the Eagles into the championship game of their own holiday tournament last Thursday.

    Senior Ben Davis came off of the bench and drained a 3-pointer with six seconds left in the third quarter, and junior Levi Maxey nailed another 3 on the first possession of the fourth quarter to seal the deal for St. Elmo in a 42-33 win against Beecher City.

  • Bombers beat MG in consolation round

    ST. ELMO – Brownstown senior Austin Hunter dominated the paint in an otherwise ugly game in the consolation semifinals of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

    He had his best game of the season with 28 points and 16 rebounds in the Bombers’ 86-54 win against Mulberry Grove last Thursday.

    The game was close through the first 16 minutes, as the Bombers held just a 31-25 halftime lead, but Mulberry Grove had trouble stopping Hunter and senior Matt Sefton in the second half.

  • Cougars upset Cowden-Herrick, but fall to Altamont

    ST. ELMO – Senior Fischer Tharp picked apart Cowden-Herrick’s defense to lead South Central to an upset win in the first round of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

    Scoring a game-high 32 points last Wednesday, Tharp led the sixth-seeded Cougars to a 52-48 victory against No. 3 Cowden-Herrick.

  • Rams fall in first two games of SEHT

    ST. ELMO – Ramsey held a 15-14 lead against No. 2 Altamont in the first round of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament last Wednesday.

    But that was the last lead the seventh-seeded Rams would have the Indians held them to just 14 second-half points in a 61-61 victory.

    Junior Tylor Knisley had 11 points to lead Ramsey (1-6), and senior Colton Hunt had a team-best seven rebounds.
