  • VCHS Hall of Fame inductees announced

    The 2011 inductees into the Vandalia Community High School Hall of Fame were announced this week.

    Joining the Hall of Fame are:

    • Rachel Bell-2005 graduate

    • Josie Earnest-2005 graduate

    • Dana Kirk-2005 graduate

    • Gretchen (Schneider) Bland-1998 graduate

  • KICK classes in June at Vandalia KC Campus

    June classes for the Kids in College at KC (KICK) program include:

    Starting Monday, June 27:

    -Tie-dye T-Shirt making for students in grades K-8, Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon.

    -Get up, Get Out and Go Play for students in grades 1-5 is from 1-4 p.m. and for students in grades 6-8, Monday and Tuesday, 8-10 a.m.

    -DNA Detective for students in sixth grade and above, Monday and Wednesday, 1-4 p.m.

  • KICK classes at KC Vandalia Campus

    The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for KICK classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia.

    • Storytellin' – Each day students will explore great children's books with fun and exciting activities, including puppetry, creative dramatics, movement, music and crafts.

  • Winners of art shows announced

    The 2011 Town & Country Art Show and Professional Art Show were held this past weekend at Artworks Gallery in the Fayette County Museum.

  • HCE 63rd annual meeting, dinner

    The Fayette County Home and Community Education held its 63rd annual dinner and meeting on Tuesday, June 14, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, with 44 members and five guests signing the register.

  • Shriners, Tin Lizzies Donate for Fireworks

    The Old National Trail Shrine Club, represented by President Dan Yakel (left) and the Old National Trail  Shrine Club Tin Lizzies, represented by President Charlie Carroll (right) presented donations for the Vandalia Lions Club's Fourth of July fireworks display.

    Accepting the donations was Lions Club member Dean Black.

  • FNB's Hometown Support Luncheon

    First National Bank of Vandalia, Ramsey, Patoka, Mulberry Grove and Greenville held its Hometown Support luncheon last week, awarding grants to a number of local entities.

    I don’t know about all of you,  but I was very happy to have a warm DRY day on Monday. With all the rain we have had,  you can almost see the grass and weeds growing. I took advantage of the day and mowed my yard on Monday afternoon, as it looks like we have more rain in the forecast.
    We will be praying for some of this rain in August. It seems that we are never satisfied with the weather.

    First Missionary Baptist to hold revival
    A summer revival will be held this Sunday through Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Royal Lake No. 2.
    The theme for the revival will be "Restoration," with that idea coming from the writings of the Old Testament prophets. Services will begin at 6:30 p.m. each day.
