    Mr. and Mrs. James “Jim” Wood will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this Friday.

    Jim Wood and Nancy Kay Clark were married on March 9, 1962, in Independence, Mo.
    Jim was born in Nevada, Mo., but was reared in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Nancy was born and reared in Independence, Mo., where they lived for four years.
    They then moved to the Lake of the Ozarks, where Jim began a welding business.

    Chamber’s race night rescheduled for March 16
    The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce’s “A Night at the Races” fund-raising event has been rescheduled for Friday, March 16, because of conflicts with its previously scheduled date of this Saturday.
    Held at the Vandalia Country and Golf Club, it begins with dinner at 6 p.m. and features eight taped horse races, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20.

    Obtains Employment in Missouri
    Mahala Harpster of St. Peter received word on Friday that she had obtained employment at Land O’ Lakes/Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo.
    She will be moving in the next couple of weeks. Mahala graduated in December from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo., with a bachelor’s degree in animal science/agri-business. She is the daughter of Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.

    Critters Wiser Than Some of Us? (Just Musing)             
    Although shorts and flip-flops on bare feet were seen this past weekend on humans, we notice the critters are still wearing their fuzzy, winter coats. Thus, when the strong, cold winter winds blew in snow over the weekend, the critters did not have to hurriedly pull on warmer coats, socks and shoes.

    VCHS play is
    next weekend

    The annual Vandalia Community High School play will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17.
    This year's play is "The Perils of Lulu."
    Admission is $3 for students and $4 for adults.

    • Kevin L. Houser, 30, Newton, was arrested on March 5 on a charge of driving while his license is suspended or revoked. No bond information was listed.
    • Jerry D. Alsbury, 20, RR 1, Vandalia, was arrested on March 5 on a charge of obstructing justice. Bond was $5,000, and he was transferred to Shelby County.
    • Cody R. Berry, 26, Springfield, was arrested on March 5 on a warrant on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. No bond information was listed.
