  • Smith named state football official

    Vandalia resident Jay Smith will be officiating at the state football finals in Champaign.

    He will either work the Class 4A title game Friday night or the class 5A title game Saturday morning.

    He also worked the state finals in 2005.

    In addition, a Vandalia officiating crew of Dave Givens, Mike Critcheloe, Jerry Schukar, Larry Rebbe and Paul Yagow officiated two rounds of games in this season's playoffs.

    Krista Suzanne Kukowski of Greenville and Capt. Adam Ward Cole of Vandalia were united in marriage at 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at First Christian Church in Greenville, with Darryl Bolen officiating.

    Kaskaskia College recently held a GED graduation ceremony in the Lifelong Learning Center. Kaskaskia College offers a GED scholarship to eligible GED® graduates.

  • Mary Lou Whitten Scholarship

    Kaskaskia College has announced that Nicole Stanfa of Carlyle has been named the recipient of the Dean of Nursing Mary Lou Whitten Endowed Scholarship awarded through the Kaskaskia College Foundation.

    Stanfa is a 2011 graduate of Carlyle High School and is a sophomore pursuing an associate of nursing degree. She is the daughter Perry and Nancy Stanfa. Pictured above, from left to right, are Dennis Whitten, Stanfa and Chris Whitten.
