  • Swofford wins summer tournament

    Rising Vandalia senior Blake Swofford recently won a junior tournament at the Roland Varkau Golf Course in Okawville.

    He placed first in the 16-18-year-old boys division by shooting a 70, winning the tournament by seven strokes.

    He is playing on the Jr. Tour of the Southern Illinois Golf Association, and will contend for the tour championship.

  • LLC Dental Hygiene Grads

    At the 2012 Lake Land College associate degree in the dental hygiene pinning ceremony, 25 dental hygiene graduates received their pins.

    During the ceremony, Casey Carlberg of Effingham (left) and Hailey Carson of St. Elmo (right) were inducted into the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Society. Those honored during the ceremony included Carson and Kayla VonBehren of St. Peter.

  • VFW Scholarship Winner at BHS

    Jeb Smail of Brownstown V.F.W. Post 9770, left, presented Ashley Lakin, right, a scholarship check at the Brownstown High School awards recognition ceremony in May.

    Lakin was the winner of the Voice of Democracy essay competition for BHS.

  • BHS Art Project

    The Brownstown Community Unit School District No. 201 Foundation sponsored a project through which art I and art II students at Brownstown High School created sculptures in the style of famous artist Alberto Giocometti.

  • KC Cosmetology Graduates

    Kaskaskia College recently held a pinning ceremony honoring the 2012 graduates of the Cosmetology Program.

  • Lake Land College announces spring graduates

    More than 500 candidates received their degrees and certificates from Lake Land College after the completion of the spring semester 2012.
    The graduates include:
    • Brownstown – Connor Smith, associate degree in computer-aided design technology and certificate in computer-aided drafting; and Brittany White, associate’s degree.
    • Farina – Carla Fletcher, associate’s degree, human services-psychology.
    • Herrick – Kristie Hardimon, associate’s degree, mathematics education.
