Recently, I contacted my friend, Roger Boye, of Evanston, to tell him my exciting news! My name appeared among the acknowledgments in Edward Callary’s new book, “Place Names Of Illinois.” This was a first for me, and I knew Roger would appreciate what it meant.

I met Roger early in 1995 through a genealogical query. He was interested in family information on the Rheiner and Boye families of St. Paul. I copied what I had and sent it to him.

The Vandalia City Council could vote on a change to the parking restrictions along Gallatin Street as early as next week.

The council’s streets and sewers committee voted unanimously to recommend a change that would allow residents living in buildings on Gallatin Street to park on the street in the evening.

Currently, parking on Gallatin Street between Kennedy Boulevard (Third Street) and Sixth Street is limited to two hours at a time around the clock, seven days a week.

In responding to the lawsuit filed by the city of Vandalia on a project in the western Interstate 70 interchange, its consulting engineering firm claims that the suit should be dismissed because the city didn’t comply with a contract signed for the project.

HMG Engineers of Carlyle responded last week to the suit filed last month in which the city seeks a judgment of $361,370.18. The city alleges that the engineering firm was negligent in preparing plans and specifications for a boring project.

The Vandalia Community High School boys and girls track teams competed in a tightly contested quadrangular meet at Hillsboro on Tuesday – with both teams finishing second, one point behind the winning team.

The VCHS girls amassed 59 points – one point behind Greenville (60) and one point ahead of Breese Mater Dei (58). Host Hillsboro placed fourth with 27 points.

On the boys side, the Vandals scored 63 points – one behind Hillsboro (64) and four ahead of third-place Greenville (59). Mater Dei was fourth with 39.
