  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    Twenty-five members and seven guests attended the ExxonMobil Annuitants Club meeting on June 30 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
    Guests present were Bob and Debbie Booher from Dolpin Island; Al, Kenneth and Angie Hagen from Shelbyville; Jane Hammond from Greenville; and Marge Harre and Pam Orr from Brownstown.
    The pledge to the flag was followed with Pat Caldwell giving the prayer before the meal.
    After the meal, Dean Black called the meeting to order and gave a special welcome to all the guests.

    Elam
    The 73rd annual Elam family reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Mulberry Grove Community Building, with a potluck dinner at noon.
    Please take a covered dish to share and your own table service.

    Fish
    The annual Fish family reunion was held on Sunday, June 19, at the Vera Baptist Church fellowship hall.
    Those attending were:
    • Vandalia – Erma Warner; Harold, Kim, Aydin, Abram and Owen Warner; Trent Casey; and Brodie, Addison and Taylor Pryor.

    Max and Marge Watson
    An open house will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, at St. Elmo Christian Church to celebrate the birthdays of Max and Marge Watson. Marge celebrated her 90th birthday on March 4, and Max will celebrate his 80th birthday on Sept. 12.
    All family members and friends are invited to the celebration.

    Steven and Alecia Rhodes of New Haven, Mo., are the parents of a boy born at 9:07 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.

    15 Years Ago

    1996 – The Vandalia Municipal Swimming Pool was ready to open after extensive rehabilitation work was completed.
    Reservations were being taken for the second annual Vandalia Community High School alumni banquet.
    A Centralia judge, Harold Pennock III, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol following an auto accident in Centralia. The accident occurred a little more than an hour after Pennock completed his daily duties on the bench in Fayette County.

  • Don't forget Ford show this weekend

    As the fair winds down, another special event is gearing up – this one at Vandalia Lake.
    The event is the inaugural Midwest All-Ford Nationals Car Show & Swap Meet. It runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday. It has the potential to attract hundreds of vintage Ford cars and trucks, as Ford enthusiasts bring their vehicles to the event to be judged and appreciated.
