  • St. Elmo board OKs co-op sports agreement

    The St. Elmo Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, June 18.
    All bills and financial reports for May were approved.
    Other action included:
    • Elementary school Principal Sean Hannagan reported that class letters will go out in mid-July.
    • High school Principal Brian Garrard reported that the summer building improvement projects are under way.

  • Three Vandalia teachers honored by IEA

    Vandalia teachers Sherry Schneider, Amy Vieregge and Todd Ehlers were recognized as Outstanding Teachers by the Illinois Education Association at the IEA Annual Awards Banquet at the N.O. Nelson Complex of the Lewis and Clark Community College in Edwardsville.

  • Attend GC Music Camp

    Bailey Jones and Haele Ruble attended the Greenville College Music Camp at Greenville college from June 10-15.

    Jones and Ruble are drum majors and will lead the Marching Vandals at Vandalia Community High School this fall.

  • KC Vandalia Campus

    How to Buy and Sell on eBay
    The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus will host a class entitled “How to Buy and Sell on eBay” in July.
    Students will learn to turn items from the attic and basement into cash using online auction sites.
    This hands-on class teaches how to put your unwanted items up for sale on eBay. This course is designed for the beginner online auctioneer.
    The instructor will demonstrate how to post items on eBay.

    EIU
    More than 1,090 undergraduate students have been named to Eastern Illinois University’s spring 2012 deans’ list.
    The deans’ list at EIU recognizes undergraduates with a declared major whose academic performance has been excellent.
    Students who achieve a GPA of 3.80-4.00 (on a 4.00 scale) while completing a minimum of 12 graded semester hours, excluding credit/no credit grades, in a fall or spring semester will be named to the deans’ list.

  • KICK classes at KC Vandalia

    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education has announced the KICK (Kids In College at Kaskaskia) classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St.
    Cake Decorating for Kids
    Kids will learn to add color to frosting, using the tools of the trade to make a beautiful treat. Each student will decorate a cake to take home and enjoy. This is a messy class, so dress appropriately.
    This class will be held on July 9, from 11 a.m.-noon. It is for students in grade 3 and above, and the cost is $20.

  • Princess Party

    The Vandalia Performing Arts Center held a Princess Party on Saturday, with 17 young girls attending.

    The party included nail-painting, karaoke, bouncy house, games, craft work and a princess cake (second photo). The girls also had their photo taken with Miss Fayette County Marisa Thomason and Jr. Miss Fayette County Brooke Mayfield (first photo).

    Hoffman
    The Hoffman Family Reunion met at Rogier Park in Vandalia on June 17.
    Five families were not represented: Leonard, Harry, Edmund, Arnold and Raymond Hoffman.
    • Albert Hoffman family members present were: Evelyn and Gary Probst of Ramsey, Connie Weller of Bethalto, May Delia Probst of Bingham, and Alan and Christy Probst of Fillmore.
    -Marriage in family: Kirsten Probst and Vijay Santhakumar on Oct. 2, 2011.

    Matthew and Sarah Sasse of Vandalia are the parents of a boy born at 10:12 a.m. on Monday, May 28, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
