    St. Peter, rural Farina get 911 addresses

    Fayette County E911 Coordinator Kevin Jenne announced on Tuesday that residents of St. Peter ZIP Code 62880 and rural Farina residences in the 62838 ZIP Code will be receiving letters with their new, official 911 addresses this week.
    The new addresses will replace the rural route box numbers that residents are currently using.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Derick J. Castic, 25, 314 N. Ash St., St. Elmo, was arrested on Nov. 12 for failure to appear in court on traffic charges and in a civil case. Bond was $5,200.
    • Isaiah Fletcher, 23, 1164 Massachusetts, Mulberry Grove, was arrested on Nov. 10 on a charge of domestic battery. Bond was $10,000.

  • County board OKs balanced budget

    The Fayette County Board passed on Tuesday what it hopes will be a balanced budget.
    Several factors, however, could dash their hopes.
    The budget approved by the board estimates general fund revenues in the coming fiscal year, which begins on Dec. 1, to total $4,323,214, and expenditures at $4,374,956.
    But that deficit turns into a surplus of about $255,000 with carryover revenue that exceeded the projected revenue amount for this fiscal year, according to board Chairman Steve Knebel.

  • Re-aligned SCC changes winter athletic play

    The revamped South Central Conference debuts this school year, and prior to each season, The Leader-Union will be asking Vandalia’s coaches how they think the changes will affect their team.

    A list of all of the changes follows.

    1)    Gillespie and Staunton have replaced East Alton-Wood River and Marquette Catholic.
    2)    There will no longer be divisional play in any sport, with all teams that used to have divisions to play one game that counts in the conference standings.

  • South Central coaches excited about NTC

    FARINA – South Central High School has joined the National Trail Conference this season, coming into the NTC at the same time Teutopolis is leaving.

    South Central has previously been in the Midland Trail Conference for many years.

    Prior to each sports season, The Leader-Union will be asking South Central’s coaches how they think the conference switch will affect their team.

    Boys basketball

    Though South Central is new to the NTC, the boys basketball team has played many of the conference’s teams in the past.
