  • Mahon to play for Baltimore Orioles

    St. Elmo native Logan Mahon is heading back to Major League Baseball.

    The Baltimore Orioles have purchased Mahon’s contract from the Gateway Grizzlies, according to the team.

    “We’re excited for Logan and happy that he will get another chance in affiliated ball,” Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said in a release.  “He’s deserving of the chance, and we wish him well.”

  • Eagles beat Cougars in NTC matchup

    ST. ELMO – The Eagles switched defenses to pull away from the Cougars in a National Trail Conference matchup on Tuesday.

    That defensive switch turned a 12-12 tie into a 22-14 halftime lead during a 45-31 St. Elmo victory.

    “We had to go sit in a zone – and I’m stubborn that way – but if we had stayed in man-to-man, we probably never would have pulled away,” said Eagles coach Greg Feezel. “If we have to go to a zone, we will.”

    The schedule for this season's St. Elmo Holiday Tournament has been announced, and the hosts have the No. 1 seed.

    For Brownstown (3-3), junior Molly Hill had a game-high 24 points, and other scorers were: Bethany Oberlink (10), Audriana Pruett (6), Danie Austin (2) and Krystyn Fitch (2).
