  • PHOTOS: Golf-Athon

    The Vandalia High School golf team took to the course on Monday for its annual Golf-Athon, a fundraiser which helps the golfers get money for their uniforms. At the end of the season, the Vandals then get to keep the polo shirts. The golf season opens on Aug. 13 at East Alton-Wood River.

    '92 Vandal football team to be honored

    Vandalia Community High School will honor its 1992 football team prior to this season's first home game on Aug. 24.

    All team members, managers and cheerleaders are invited to attend the pregame ceremony, which will be followed by Vandalia vs. Gillespie at 7 p.m.

  • VCHS class of 1952 holds 60-year reunion June 22-24

    The Vandalia High School graduating class of 1952 celebrated its 60th anniversary the weekend of June 22-24.

  • St. Elmo registration is next week

    Registration days for the St. Elmo Jr.-Sr. High School and Elementary School will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday.
    Orientation and registration for seventh-grade students and their parents will be held from 6-8 p.m. on July 31.
    All students, including those new to the district and district students who attend classes in Vandalia, should register at those times.
    Junior-Senior High students enrolled in physical education classes are required to wear physical education uniforms. Uniforms can be purchased at registration for $10.

    St. James women publish cookbook

    For more than 150 years, the women of St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia and Zion Lutheran Church in Loogootee have been known for the wonderful food they prepare for church events and fundraisers.
    To help raise money for the restoration of the church's steeple, the women have decided to share some of their favorite recipes. That effort has resulted in the publishing of the "Town and Country Cookbook."

    The drought continues – with Monday's temperature rising to 104 degrees. We keep wondering, “How long can this heat last?” Records have already been broken. Luckily, we were again in Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care with ample air-conditioning.
    Betty Stolte, a very talented pianist, was playing some old familiar music. “Whispering” was a favorite of those singing along.
