  • Eagles switch defense to cruise to win

    ST. ELMO – The Eagles switched to a zone defense in the second half to shut out Ramsey in the third quarter during a 68-37 win on Tuesday at the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

    Struggling to build a lead with its man-to-man coverage, St. Elmo coach Greg Feezel employed a zone look in the third quarter, which helped his team outscore the Rams, 16-0, to take a 53-27 lead.

    "We decided to sit in a zone and see if we could do better," Feezel said. "We played it pretty well, but we couldn't guard them man-to-man.

  • The College Report: Hobbie leading Greenville College

    Greenville College has struggled through the first 10 games.

    But Vandalia graduate Laura Hobbie is doing everything she can to change that.

    The Greenville Lady Panthers are 3-7 through their first 10 games, and in the last five games, they have just one victory. Hobbie, however, has been in double figures in every game, save one.

  • Lucken elected 2012 president of Field of Dreams committee

    Tom Lucken was elected the president of Field of Dreams for 2012 at the committee's last meeting.

    Steve Ledbetter was elected the vice president, Luke Hohlt the treasurer and Amber Daulbaugh the secretary.  All votes were unanimous.

    Lucken, who has been a member of the committee for most of its existence, also proposed new by laws for the Field of Dreams, and he will bring amended by laws for approval at the Jan. 17, 2012, meeting.

  • Ribbon-cutting on VCHS track on Friday afternoon

    A ribbon-cutting and the first races will be held at the finish line of the new track at Vandalia Community High School this Friday at 4 p.m.
    At the event, an unofficial 400-meter dash will be held for both boys and girls.

    The Brownstown Junior High seventh-grade girls basketball team last Wednesday won a sectional championship by defeating Oblong, 28-17, at the Class 7-2A sectional in Albion.
