    Jonathan Denning graduated magna cum laude from the School of Engineering at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on May 5.

    Denning is the son of Howard and May Denning of Vandalia, and the grandson of Dwight and Darla Denning of Vandalia, and Erlinda Samson of Sacramento, Calif.

  • Laborers' Roadblock Day

    Mayor Rick Gottman, right, signed a proclamation declaring this Saturday Southern and Central Illinois Laborers' Roadblock Day. On Saturday, laborers will be collecting funds, with the donations used to help disabled children in Southern and Central Illinois. With Gottman is Joe Hill, field representative for Laborers' Local 1197.

  • DAR meeting held

    The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Benjamin Mills Chapter, met for its monthly meeting on May 9 at The Glenwood in Greenville.
    Special guests were sisters Jane Hubbert and Ann Hunter, long-time members of the Benjamin Mills Chapter and residents of The Glenwood.
    Jennifer Dunkley from the Greenville campus of Kaskaskia College presented the program on literacy and discussed the Reading Link program, which she heads on the Greenville campus.
    After the business meeting was adjourned, refreshments were served.

    Amanda and Keith Taylor of Sandoval are the parents of a boy born at 7:46 p.m. on April 14, 2012, at Greenville Regional Hospital in Greenville.

    Claralyn Kay Luchtefeld and Jonathan Tyler Denton, both of Vandalia, were united in married in a 4 p.m. ceremony on Nov. 11, 2011, at St. Elmo Christian Church in St. Elmo, with the Rev. Tom Fedrigon officiating.
    The bride is the daughter of LaQuita (Haslett) and Kelly Booher, and the late Frank Luchtefeld and his wife Lisa. She is the granddaughter of Keith and Margaret Haslett of St. Elmo, Shirley Feree of Scottsdale, Ariz., and the late V.R. “Lucky” Luchtefeld.
    She was given in marrage by her stepfather, Kelly Booher.

    Stephanie Henna of Vandalia and Mitchell Ashbaugh of Effingham were united in marriage in a 2 p.m. ceremony on March 24, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Dr. Roger Grimmett officiating.

    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced last week that it will consider Illinois farmers hauling commodities in most circumstances to be intrastate commerce, effectively resolving the concerns of Illinois farmers.
