    The South Central High School volleyball team lost to Gibault Catholic, 25-11, 25-15, at the Super-Sectional tournament in Bridgeport on Saturday.

  • Growing young minds

    For Greta Krueger, teaching Vandalia Community High School students goes beyond what they can learn in the classroom. She wants them to learn about such things as career choices and being a solid citizen in their community.

    Krueger took a small group of VCHS juniors and seniors to Vandalia’s Little Community Garden last fall, hoping to teach those students about the value of community service.

  • Scotland Presentation

    Joyce Mueller gave a presentation on Scotland at the Fayette County HCE International Dinner.

    Mueller, a member of the Vandalia Day Unit of HCE, is a direct descendant of Scotland hero Robert, the Bruce, recognized as King Robert I in 1328. Mueller displayed about 50 photographs that she took during a visit to Scotland a few years ago.

    Devious & Daring Red Fox gets Breakfast-to-Go
    It was a sad day here on the Homestead Saturday when tragedy struck in broad daylight. It was the usual morning routine – let Josie, the 12 year-old-puppy, out the back patio door, walk on a few feet and let the girls, Anita and Blackie (hens), out and take Josie back in.
    As I let the girls out, I watched them run to their place where Bill puts their corn, just a few feet from where I was and near the deck.

    A few enjoyable hours are always reserved for everyone attending the Monday programs at Evergreen Outreach. One can visit, learn and have a good time listening to special entertainment.
    This week, we had a Halloween afternoon program at Fayette County Hospital's Long Term Care facility.
    Pianist Betty Stolte opened the program with a variety of selections, which included, “The Lighthouse,” “Mansion on the Hill,” “Born Again” and “Dwelling In Beulah Land.”

    'Total Money Makeover' at Northside

    Northside Christian Church will present Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover," beginning this Sunday.
    The one-hour classes will meet every Sunday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the church. There is no cost to attend, as material will be provided by the church.
    Those who are planning to participate are asked to contact the church (283-1970 or www.northsidecc@att.net) so that enough workbooks can be ordered.
