  • Extension changes

    Budgetary cuts by University of Illinois Extension have resulted in changes at the Fayette County office.
    Those changes include a reduction in the hours of operation, with the Fayette County Extension Office now open Wednesday through Friday.
    “These changes will allow us to continue supporting 4-H and other educational programs, while reducing administrative costs,” said Rachelle Hollinshead, Extension director for Clay, Effingham, Fayette and Jasper counties.

    Student orientation
    Kaskaskia College invites its new students to attend a new student orientation.
    The free program is designed to introduce students to information and contacts important for a successful start of their college experience.  Information about services and activities and classroom success strategies will be included.
    Students who attend this program traditionally perform better in college than those who do not.
    A session will be held Wednesday, Aug. 10, from 9-11 a.m. at the KC Crisp Technology Center.

  • Local teacher participates in writing project

    More than 3,000 kindergarten through college teachers across the country will dedicate four weeks of their summer break to learning new strategies to improve their students’ writing skills.
    These teachers will study the latest research and effective classroom practices in summer institutes at more than 200 National Writing Project (NWP) sites on college campuses in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
