    The Kaskaskia College Foundation has announced that Brett Ambuehl of Mulberry Grove, left, was recently named the recipient of the Frank M. Denny Memorial Scholarship.

    Brownstown Schools seeks Glee grant

    The Brownstown School District's music department has applied for a grant from the Fox TV series Glee by submitting a video online, and it's now needing assistance from the public.
    The grant funds being awarded will total $1 million, with individual grants of up to $50,000 being given.

  • KC Vandalia Campus classes

    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a social networking class at the Vandalia Campus.
    The class will focus on how businesses can learn to use Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to their advantage.
    This course will include building pages, security and customizing pages. Internet experience is necessary.
    The cost for the course is $20; students over 60 may register at no cost.
    The class is being offered on Tuesdays, Nov. 15 and 22, from 4-6 p.m. Prior knowledge of the internet is required.

  • Second museum presentation is this Sunday

    The second of this season’s events sponsored by the Fayette County Museum will be held at 2 p.m. this Sunday in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
    Jerry Koenig of Chesterfield, Mo., will tell of the conditions he and his family experienced during World War II.
    Koenig will describe the treatment of Jewish families and others by the political regime. He will relate what his family was able to do, how they were in hiding, the risks others took to protect them and their eventual freedom.

    Erin Ainscough of Vandalia and Michael (Mik) Rowe of Valley Mills, Texas, were united in marriage on Saturday Aug. 13, 2011, at the C-Bar Stables in Valley Mills, Texas, with the Revs. Tanner Green and Vance Yarter performing the outdoor ceremony.
