  • Holiday activities now in full swing

    Looking for something to do to get you in the holiday mood? Look no further than the Vandalia Statehouse.
    This Saturday evening, the crown jewel of Vandalia’s downtown district will be decorated in its holiday attire, with period Christmas decorations and candlelight transforming the classic structure into a beautiful holiday experience.
    The Holiday Open House runs from 4-6:30 p.m. Saturday, with cider and cookies being served to guests. Additionally, the first 100 families will receive a unique Christmas ornament.

  • FAYCO recycling a good addition

    Next Wednesday, FAYCO Enterprises will mark yet another milestone in its 36-year history of serving individuals with disabilities in our area.

  • Vandalia Holiday Tournamet schedule announced

    The schedule for the 2012 Vandalia Holiday Tournament has been released.

    Flora has the No. 1 seed for the 41st annual event, and Vandalia is seeded No. 3.

    Maroa-Forsyth and St. Anthony replace Wesclin and Stew-Stras in this year’s VHT.

    Other local teams are No. 5 St. Elmo and No. 10 South Central.

  • Letter preserves history of Grandfields

    With the building of the National Road through Fayette County, beginning around 1829, workmen and their families arrived and villages grew along the route, with Howard’s Point being a prime example.
    One of these was that of Thomas Grandfield. Through a letter written in 1957 by Lewis Grandfield to a grandson, we learn that Thomas was a stone cutter, and worked his way from Philadelphia to Fayette County on the National Road.

  • Holiday Chorus

    Youth from St. Elmo Christian Church are joined by several adults in singing holiday tunes during "Christmas in St. Elmo on Friday night.

  • Toys for Tots at Arthur Young Inc.

    Arthur Young Inc., the local Chevrolet dealership, is again serving as the home for the Toys for Tots program, which provides Christmas gifts for needy young children in the area.

    New and like-new toys are being received at the dealership through early Monday morning. Shown here are Angie and Dennis Young of Arthur Young Inc.

  • FAYCO to hold ceremony at its new recycling center

    FAYCO Enterprises will celebrate more than 36 years of service to the community, as well as the opening of its new recycling center and new residential facility, with an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony next Wednesday morning.
