    The Vandalia Vertical 15's volleyball club went undefeated to place first in its division at a 16's tournament in Champaign in January.

  • Texas man killed in I-70 accident on Monday

    A Texas man was killed in an accident early Monday morning on Interstate 70 in eastern Fayette County.
    Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen said that James Tinsley II of El Paso sustained fatal injuries when struck by a tractor-trailer shortly before daylight.
    According to the Illinois State Police, a tractor-trailer driven by Tinsley was involved in a crash, which Bowen said resulted in his lights being disabled.

    Patoka man to be inducted at SIU

    A former Patoka athlete will be inducted to the Southern Illinois University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday.
    John Garrett is among the six inductees in the 2012 class.

    Garrett, who was a 5-foot-10, point guard nicknamed "Mouse," scored 995 points over 72 games (13.8 points per game) during his three-year career at SIU. When he played, from 1969-72, freshmen were not eligible.

  • Clymer, Ashdown win Abe Awards

    Abe Clymer and John Ashdown are the latest residents to be honored by the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce for their service to the community.

    Clymer was honored for his years of serving as Vandalia's Abraham Lincoln. Clymer, a member of the Lincoln Presenters, successfully lobbied the organization to hold its annual convention in Vandalia several years ago.

    Ashdown was honored for his leadership in the construction of a new Family YMCA facility.

    Abe Clymer and John Ashdown were presented with Abe Awards at the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce banquet on Thursday night.

    Clymer was chosen to receive an Abe for the years that he has served as Vandalia's Abraham Lincoln. A Lincoln presenter, Clymer successfully lobbied to have the national presenters group hold its convention in Vandalia.


    Ashdown was honored for his leadership in the campaign for a new Family YMCA facility.
