    The old-fashioned “school days” were revisited Tuesday, Oct. 23, as a troupe of actors, known as the “Golden Years Gang,” presented a skit, “The Cracker Barrel School.”

    Mitch, Gretchen and Owen Harpster of Cape Girardeau, Mo., spent the weekend with Mitch’s parents, Dane and Belinda Harpster of St. Peter.
    The family enjoyed Saturday evening dinner at the home of Doug and Pam Stein of Loogootee.
    Death
    Rita Siemer, 66, of St. Peter, formerly of Teutopolis, died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Amy Reiss of St. Peter.
    The funeral was held on Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel.

    • Friendship Manor is having a Halloween Costume Party for kids through the fifth grade. Festivities will start at 6 p.m. with room visits to participating residents handing out candy to the costumed visitor. At 7 p.m., there will be a costume contest, with prizes for the best costumes in three age groups. In between other things, refreshments will be available in the form of punch, hot chocolate and cookies.

  • Jefferson Primary Fun Fest

    Jefferson Primary School in Vandalia will hold its annual Fun Fest this Friday, from 5-8 p.m.
    The Fun Fest will include a variety of games and activities, as well as a hot dog and chili supper.
    From 4:30-8 p.m., Hosick Motors in Vandalia is holding a Chrysler Drive for the Kids fundraiser. During that time, any licensed driver who is at least 18 years old may test drive a Chrysler Town & Country and raise money for the school. Each driver earns a $10 donation for the school.

  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    Twenty-four members and three guests traveled to the Chinatown Restaurant in Litchfield for the monthly ExxonMobil Annuitants luncheon and meeting on Thursday, Oct. 25.
    Following the pledge to the flag, Brock Fisher gave the meal blessing.
    After the buffet, Dean Black opened the meeting with the announcement of two new members, Karl and Diane Kozak of Gillespie. Guests present were Millie Brooks, and Kenneth and Angie Hagan.
    The secretary and treasurer report was given and approved as read.
