  • Lady Vandals fall in pair of conference games

VANDALIA – The Lady Vandals weren’t playing their best softball early in Monday’s game against Litchfield, but they were playing well enough to stay in the game.

Unfortunately, the third out in the second inning proved difficult to get, as Litchfield pounded out four two-run hits with two outs to break open the game on the way to an 18-5 South Central Conference victory.

  • Track teams to have senior day on Thursday

Because so many track meets have been canceled due to inclement weather so far this season, a home meet has been added to the Vandalia boys and girls track schedules.

Litchfield will come to Vandalia on Thursday for a meet at 4:15 p.m., and Vandalia will use the event as senior day.

Prior to the meet, Vandalia expected to try to get more teams to come to the event.

The boys will honor Wade Cowger and Ryan Ambuehl, while the girls will recognize Sierah Ruffner, Makenzie Roberts, Emily Miles and Heidi Goldsmith.

  • Vandals fall to conference opponents

The Vandals fell to a pair of South Central Conference opponents in the past week, falling to Litchfield, 10-0, on Monday, and Greenville, 5-4, last Wednesday.

A game against Hillsboro was rained out last Friday, and it will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Hillsboro next Wednesday.

Offensive struggles hurt Vandalia against the Purple Panthers, with just two hits in the six-inning loss that saw Litchfield score five times in the sixth inning to end the game on the mercy rule.
