  • VCHS tennis team to open practice on Aug. 15

    Practice for the Vandalia Community High School tennis team will begin on Monday, Aug. 15.

    Practices will be on weekdays from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. at the high school tennis courts.

    Athletes must have a physical on file before attending.

    The season opens at home against conference foes Roxana on Monday, Aug. 22, at 4:30 p.m. and Marquette Catholic on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 4:30 p.m.

    Last season, the tennis team won five matches, which was a higher number than coach Kevin Schroeder expected.

  • Community Sports Briefs (August 4)

    YMCA to host sand volleyball tourney

    The Fayette County Family YMCA is hosting a double-elimination sand volleyball tournament on Sept. 24-25.

    The registration fee is $90 per team. A maximum of eight people high school-age or older can be on a team, but only six individuals will receive a T-shirt. At least two women must on the court at all times.

    Those younger than 18 will need a parent's signature to play, and all players must sign a waiver.

    The minimum number of players on the court is four, and the maximum is six.
