  • Girls basketball teams begin regional play on Monday

    The Illinois High School Association girls basketball playoffs begin on Monday.

    Vandalia, a fourth seed, will open play at the Teutopolis regional at 6 p.m., with a game against No. 5 Casey-Westfield. The winner will meet top-seeded Marshall on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

    Meanwhile, at North Clay, (4) Brownstown and (5) South Central will battle at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will meet top-seeded Red Hill on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

    Last Friday, Brownstown beat South Central, 46-31.

  • Vandal wrestlers win 18th straight regional championship

    TOLEDO - On the strength of six first-place finishes, the Vandalia wrestling team won the Cumberland Regional Tournament, tallying a team score of 202 while securing its 18th straight team title.

    Freshmen Ryne Lipsey (106) and Dalton Blankenship (132); sophomore C.J. Runkel (138); and seniors Daniel Edwards (152), Dayin Godberson (182) and Levi Ulmer (195) each took first-place honors.

    Junior Seth Purcell (145) and senior Anthony Fladeland (285) placed second, while junior Tyler Dagen (126) took third.

  • Rams visit Tiffanae Litaker

  • Health department observing American Heart Month

    February is American Heart Month, and unfortunately, most people know someone who has had heart disease or stroke.

  • KC Vandalia Campus

    Sign language
    The Vandalia Campus is offering an extensive series of sign language classes for both children and their caregivers.
    The classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings for both 2- and 3-year-olds.
    The topics include eat and drink, clothing, play, mom and dad, pets, nice words, bedtime and many more.
    This course is open to all children and caregivers, both hearing-impaired and non-hearing-impaired.
    The cost for each four-session block is $20 per caregiver.

  • Vandalia parent-teacher conferences are Friday

    The Vandalia School District will hold parent-teacher conferences from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. this Friday.
    Teachers will be available except during the following lunch times:
    • 11-11:30 a.m.-Okaw Area Vocational Center.
    • 11:15-11:45 a.m.-Vandalia Jefferson Primary School.
    • 11:30 a.m.-noon-Vandalia Elementary School.
    • 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m.-Vandalia Junior High School.
    • Noon-12:30 p.m.-Vandalia Community High School.

  • Berg Wins BES Spelling Bee

    Stephen Berg, in the first photo, won the spelling bee at Brownstown Elementary School on Friday, earning the right to advance to the district bee in Mulberry Grove.

  • Evergreen Outreach

    Evergreen Outreach had a lovely meeting on Monday afternoon at Wesley Hall, led by Joyce Staff.
    Enjoying the program were residents from FAYCO, Vandalia Rehab and Brookstone.
    Refreshments and drinks were served by volunteers Marie Sutton, Jeanne Schlicht, Erna Wasmuth and Ruth Ann Scott.
    Birthdays for the week were: Louis Laster, Susan Tretter, Cindy Jarrett, James White, Dr. Don Rames, Helen Johnson, Maybelle Ledbetter and Bonnie Sharp.
