    She has three children: Jon Smith of Sherman, Pat Frost of Gainesville, Fla., and Pam Sapp of Livermoore, Colo.
    She has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

    Scrapbooking at OUR PLACE
     
    Scrapbooking will be held at OUR PLACE Youth Center, 507 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Friday. The scrapbooking is open to everyone ages 8 to adult.

    Inaugural Fun Fest is Saturday

    The inaugural “Join Our Rage Against Neurofibromatosis Fun Fest” will be held from noon-6 p.m. at Gatch Lake.

  • Two charged with break-in

    Two individuals have been charged in connection with a break-in at Brownstown Elementary School on Sept. 18.
    Michael A. White, 23, of Vandalia, has been charged with theft of more than $500.
    The charge, a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000, alleges that White stole electronics valued at between $500 and $10,000.
    Tiffany A. Hans, 20, of Vandalia, is charged with burglary for allegedly entering the school without authority.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-Sept. 25, 2011

    • Meghan R. Kessinger, 18, 204½ S. Broadway St., Herrick, was arrested on Sept. 27 on a charge of retail theft. Bond was $1,000.
    • Lisa B. Simmons, 45, 1210 W. Tower St., Vandalia, was arrested on Sept. 26 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. Bond was $3,000, and she was released at the order of the state’s attorney’s office.

  • Three local youths attend Rand's writing camp

    Madeline Cade, Audrey K. Myers and Hope Budny-Clymer are best friends and schoolmates at Fayette Christian Academy in Vandalia.

  • Festivals draw big crowds

    Good weather and a variety of activities during the Grande Levée and Corn Day attracted big crowds to downtown Vandalia throughout the day on Saturday.

  • Smoking trial is next week

    A jury trial is scheduled next week for the owners of a Vandalia bar who have been issued three tickets for allegedly allowing smoking in the bar.
    The trial for G&T Holdings will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with the selection of jurors.
    Vandalia Police issued three tickets last August which allege that the Redwood Inn violated a city ordinance put on the books in January 2010.
