  • County on target with current budget

    A member of the Fayette County Board reported on Tuesday that the county is right on target with this year’s budget.
    But, Darrell Schaal, a member of the board’s finance committee, cautioned the county’s department heads that they need to remain vigiliant with their spending for the next six months.
    Schaal reported that the county is at 48 percent with its revenues and at 49 percent with its expenditures midway through the fiscal year.

  • Warrant served on sythetic drug charges

    A Vandalia man who was charged in April with two synthetic drug offenses was arrested on those charges last week.
    According to Fayette County Jail records, an arrest warrant was served on Jerry W. Weldon Jr., 44, 120 E. Jefferson St., and he was processed at the jail last Tuesday.
    In April, the office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison filed information charging Weldon with two felony offenses.

  • The fight against synthetic drugs

    Calling together for a town hall meeting members of a team fighting the use and sale of synthetic drugs, state Sen. Kyle McCarter asked those attending the meeting to join the team.
    McCarter, a Republican from Lebanon, set up the town hall meeting to educate the public on synthetic drugs, a growing problem throughout the state.

    • Michelle L. Koonce, 37, 1741 E. 1575 Ave., Brownstown, was arrested on June 9 on a Bond County warrant for a charge of deceptive practices. Bond was $1,000.
    • Sarah A. Davis, 41, 2819 W. St. Louis Ave., Vandalia, was arrested on June 8 on a charge of fraud. Bond was $7,500.
    • Christopher R. Ralston, 30, Robinson, was arrested on June 8 on charges of driving while his license is suspended or revoked, illegal transportation of alcohol and speeding. Bond was $1,500.

  • Prime Timers taking bus trip

    The Fayette and Bond County Farm Bureaus are sponsoring a Prime Timers bus trip to Arthur on Saturday, June 20.
    The trip will be for a full day and will include many activities in Amish country.
    The bus will be making stops at both Farm Bureau offices to pick up attendees. The bus will be leaving from Greenville at 8 a.m. and will stop in Vandalia at about 8:30.
    The first stop of the day will be at a market in downtown Arthur. The market includes crafts, foods and some antiques. Following the market, the group will head to Beachy’s Bulk Foods.

  • Ian Murrell holding recital

    A fundraising recital will be held on Saturday, June 13, for a Vandalia resident who has been accepted for study in Colorado this summer.

  • Golden Circle Menus

    Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses. There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit. Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.
