  • City seeks input on lake lots, recycling

    A Vandalia City Council committee meeting that was scheduled for Saturday to discuss some options being considered for lease lots at Vandalia Lake has been rescheduled.
    Alderman Mike Hobler, chairman of the Vandalia Lake committee, said that the meeting of the lake committee has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 24.
    The meeting was rescheduled, Hobler said, due to the fact that some of the interested parties would not be available this Saturday.

    Small Tornado in St. Peter
    On Saturday evening, a small tornado touched down on the outskirts of St. Peter. It caused some severe damage to a shed at the home of Herschel Ambuehl. Fortunately, no one was injured. Power lines were down, causing a town-wide power outage for the rest of the night, and most of the day on Sunday. The town was at a standstill, even cancelling church! Some roads were flooded and even closed as of Monday morning

    A card shower has been requested for Elizabeth “Betty” (Binnion) Yarbrough, who will celebrate her 95th birthday on Saturday, May 13.
    The daughter of the late Robert and Amanda Binnion of Patoka, she lived in Bluff City for many years, then moved to Vandalia and retired from Crane Packing after 20 years of service.
