    On the night that they honored their seniors, the Lady Vandals dispatched Gillespie in two games on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-19.
    The win puts the Lady Vandals at 17-10 on the season and 5-3 in South Central Conference play.
    Honored prior to the match, with their parents, were seniors Sydney Austin, Emalee Hall, Bailey Younker, Taylor Gelsinger, Shelbi Stewart, Katie Tarkington and Carlie Wilkerson.

  • Local man charged with threatening police in video Facebook post

    A day after being arrested for failure to appear in court, a Vandalia man was charged with threatening a public official.
    Bond has been set at $40,000 for Tad A. Keeling, 30, 511 W. St. Clair St., who was arrested on the felony charge last Friday.
    Information filed by the office of Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison alleges that on Oct. 11, Keeling “knowingly conveyed indirectly to the Vandalia Police Department, public officials, a threat, being a video post to Facebook.”

  • Traffic stop leads to cannabis arrests

    Three individuals were taken into custody after an Illinois State police discovered 62 pounds of cannabis during a traffic stop on Interstate 70 west of Vandalia last week.
    The state police said on Tuesday that shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, a trooper initiated a traffic stop on a Toyota Camry for allegedly following another vehicle too closely.
    During the stop, the cannabis, having a street value of about $150,000, was discovered, the ISP said.

    • Michael J. Burns, 41, Livingston, was arrested on Oct. 16 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $1,500.
    • Noah A. Kozak, 19, 630 S. Fifth St., Vandalia, was arrested on Oct. 16 on a charge of criminal damage to property. Bond was $1,500, and he was released at the order of a judge.
    • Audra L. Daugherty, 25, 1802 E. 2400 Ave., Brownstown, was arrested on Ocgt. 16 on a charge of concealing/aiding a fugitive. No bond information was listed.
