    • Ethan J. Thompson, 19, 107 N. Adams, Herrick, was arrested on July 19 on charges of speeding, illegal consumption of alcohol, reckless driving and improper lane usage. Bond was $2,000.
    • Tiffany R. Smart-Powell, 18, 1410 N. Seventh St., Vandalia, was arrested on July 18 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $5,000.
    • Dillon S. Freeman, 21, RR 2, Vandalia, was arrested on July 18 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $1,500.

    Tools for School distribution Aug. 10-13

    Tools for School, a program that provides free school supplies to Fayette County in-need students, pre-kindergarten through junior college, will be in operation at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia on the following dates:
    • Wednesday, Aug. 10 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Thursday, Aug. 11 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Friday, Aug. 12 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • Saturday, Aug. 13 – 9 a.m.-noon.

  • Kaskaskia College to Hold Special Community Meeting on LPN Program in Vandalia

    Kaskaskia College has scheduled a special community meeting for Wednesday, July 20, for the purpose of discussing the discontinuation of the Licensed Practical Nursing courses at the college’s Vandalia Campus.  The meeting will be held at the Vandalia Campus starting at 6:00 p.m. with KC President Dr. Penny Quinn, Board of Trustees Vice Chairman Dr. Dee Boswell, as well as other KC administrative personnel on hand to discuss the information regarding this recommended action, as well as, gather input and answer any questions from the public.
