  • Route 51 again open to traffic

    U.S. Route 51 between Patoka and Vernon is again open to traffic.

    A Marathon Pipeline spokesman at the scene of a Sunday leak at the Patoka Tank Farm said that Route 51 was reopened at 8 a.m. today (Monday).

    Angela Graves of Marathon said Monday morning that the company is estimated that about 1,000 barrels of crude oil were leaked, adding that it is "a rough estimate."

    Cleanup of the site, she said, would likely take several days to complete.

    Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Virden celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on Monday.
    Friends and family are invited to honor the couple at an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday at Rehoboth Baptist Church camp, located five miles north of Vandalia on U.S. Route 51 or five miles south of Ramsey.
    The former Iris Hughes, daughter of the late Marion and Marjorie Hughes of Rosamond, and Dennis Virden, son of the late Ralph and Verna Virden of Ramsey, were married on June 23, 1979, in Pana.

    Heather Mechel Beck and Timothy Andrew Moeller of Hillsboro are the parents of a boy born at 5:31 p.m. on June 3, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
    Jaxson Timothy Dale Wilkerson weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
    Maternal grandparents are Cindy and Dale Whitford of Litchfield, and Scott Beck of Vandalia. Paternal grandparents are Patrick and Rhonda Wilkerson of Muskegon, Mich., Bruce and Cheryl Richards of Carlinville, and Regina Albert of Oakford.
