  • Low-speed vehicles

    A topic of interest for many Fayette County residents who have all-terrain vehicles and utility vehicles will be discussed, and possibly acted on, at Thursday’s meeting of the Fayette County.
    Items on the agenda for the 7 p.m. meeting in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse include an ordinance “approving the operation of low-speed vehicles within the limits of Fayette County.”

    First Pentecostal holding revival

    First Pentecostal Church in Vandalia will hold revival services with the Rev. Wesley Jackson of Diggins, Mo. April 13-15, with services beginning at 7 o'clock each evening.

If you ever need an uplift, a friend, a real joyful occasion, just come to Evergreen Outreach.  For at least an hour, maybe more, you can cast your troubles away and let God fill your heart. Great music and good friends will help you get thru whatever or anything that is hurting you.   We welcomed many EO friends that we have not seen for at least a month, some since Christmas!

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Jonathan M. Henderson, 19, Florissant, Mo., was arrested on April 5 on charges of speeding, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and possession of cannabis. Bond was $2,000.
    • Kelli C. White, 30, 101 S. Fifth St., Apt. 4, Vandalia, was arrested on April 5 on a charge of driving without a license. Bond was $1,500.
    • Harvey L. Newburn, 33, Cowden, was arrested on April 4 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $2,500.

    ✔ Soroptimist International of Vandalia meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
    ✔ CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
    ✔ TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.

  • Voter mailing not coming from county clerk

    Fayette County Clerk Vicky L. Conder announced on Monday that all election authorities were recently advised by the Illinois State Board of Elections of a mailing that has gone out in March from the Voter Participation Center in Chicagoto all non-registered voters in Illinois, and that a second similar mailing is going out this summer.
    This mailing contains a letter from the VPA and a voter registration form with the name and address of each applicable election authority for their reference should they wish to register to vote.

  • Davis notebook wins state award for HCE

    The Fayette County Association for Home and Community Education is a member of the Illinois Association HCE, and its title describes the organization’s goals – to help bring awareness and educational information to homes and the communities in which they live.

  • Cleanup Week is April 18-22

    Vandalia residents who are customers of Doty Sanitation will have the opportunity to get rid of unwanted items during the city’s annual Cleanup Week, April 18-22.
    The unwanted items are to be placed alongside regular trash on residents’ normal trash pickup days.
    The city asks residents to pile items on the curbside in a manner that they would wish to pick it up themselves. Any lumber should be cut into reasonable lengths, stacked and, if possible, bundled into reasonable weights.  

  • Fitness evaluation OK'd for Hammer

    A Vandalia woman who has been charged with causing serious injury to her infant child will be evaluated to determine whether she is fit to stand trial.
