  • Council picks lower of two choices for hikes

Presented with two options for increases in water and sewer rates for the coming year, Vandalia aldermen chose the one proposing lower increases, making one adjustment to that proposal.
Approved in a 5-2 vote was a proposed increase of 3.11 percent in water rate. And while that proposal called for no increase in sewer rates, alderman approved a 1-percent hike.
The city’s auditing firm, Timmerman and Co. Ltd. of Vandalia, gave aldermen two options for water and sewer rates as it presented the city audit earlier this month.
