  • California man jailed for heroin

    A California man is in Fayette County Jail on $100,000 bond after being arrested on Sunday for possession of heroin.

  • A surplus county budget

    The Fayette County Board voted to open for public viewing a proposed budget that has a small surplus in the general fund at the end of the next fiscal year.
    That surplus is being made possible because of a decision involving past loans to the general fund from the capital improvements fund.
    Cat Lange of Bellwether, an operations consultant hired by the county board in July, told board members on Tuesday that in past year’s, the county has “tried to run a tightly-balanced budget” or one with a substantial deficit.

    The Vandals soccer team lost to Staunton, 7-0, on Senior Night last Thursday at Miller Field in Vandalia. Daniel Durbin-Flack had nine saves in goal for the Vandals.
    The Vandals lost to Greenville, 7-0, last Wednesday at Greenville. Durbin-Flack had 13 saves for Vandalia.

    Jadie Keck had nine points and Sydney Miller eight as the eighth-grade Lady Vandals defeated Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick last Tuesday, 28-26.

    The Lady Vandals improved to 14-9 overall and 3-3 in South Central Conference play with a two-game win over Hillsboro on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-19.

    Matt Shroyer, a 2008 graduate of Vandalia Community High School, excelled at both wrestling and football.
    In football, Matt was a three-year letter winner and two-year starter, as both a linebacker and quarterback.
