  • ExxonMobil Annuitants

    The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on April 25 at Chinatown Restaurant in Litchfield, with 27 members and three guests present.
    Guests attending were Millie Brooks and Jane Hammond, guests of Carolyn Johnson, and Elmer Ganzer, guest of Doris Thomas.
    Vice President Mike Mulhern welcomed members and guests, followed by the pledge to the flag.  Laverne Laux gave the blessing before the lunch buffet.
    Mulhern opened the meeting by introducing the guests and new members Bev Klaus, Dick and Barb Lounsbury, and Ron Schoen.

  • Beasley fires no-hitter, strikes out record 19 in win over Rams

    The record-setting spring continued for St. Elmo senior Connor Beasley on Wednesday.

    Pitching in the second game of a double-header, Beasley pitched a no-hitter, striking out 19 batters to tie his own school record in a 1-0 win for the Eagles. He had previously struck out 19 batters on April 8.

    With the win, Beasley set the school record for career wins with 31. Logan Mahon had previously held that record.

    Ramsey's Waylon Davis was the tough-luck loser in the game, allowing just two hits and one walk over his six innings of work.

  • School board to meet Monday

    The Vandalia Board of Education will hold a special meeting and a board retreat next Monday in the board room at the district administration office.
    The special meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., will include administering the oath of office to new board members as well as the election of new officers.
    To be elected are president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The board also will establish a time and date for its regular monthly meetings.

    Saturday is call-in day
    for fair pageants

    This Saturday is call-in day for girls interested in competing in the Little Miss and Junior Miss pageants in Fayette County this summer.
    Parents of contestants for the Little Miss pageant (ages 5-7) may begin calling 427-3762 at  9 a.m. on Saturday.
    Parents of contestants for the Junior Miss pageant (in grades 6-8 this fall) may begin calling 427-3762 at 10 a.m.
    The first 20 callers in each division will be accepted for the pageants.
